PNC Cash Rewards℠ Visa® Credit Card

PNC Cash Rewards Credit Card - One of the best, if you live in the right state.

PNCs cash rewards product is a solid entry to the best cash back cards page. It gets dinged for the bank's limited availability. You currently have to live within the bank's lending footprint, which inlcudes Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Washington D.C.

It's recommended that you have good to excellent credit before applying for this card, which generally means a FICO score over 680. If you still have some credit building to do, check out our guide for the best products to help build credit.

Counting Your Pennies - How To Earn Rewards with the PNC Cash Rewards Credit Card

This one is a bit tricky to track, but stay with us. For the right spending patterns, this one may be worth it. You'll earn 4% cash back on gas stations, 3$ cash back on dining, and 2% cash back on grocery store purchases. These rewards earning rates are capped at $8,000 in spend across the three categories. All other purchases earn 1% cash back.

Cash back can be redeemed as a statement credit or deposited into a qualifying PNC account. You have to have at least $25 in rewards to make a redemption, similar to other top cards in the cash back category. Rewards don't expire as long as your account is open.

PNC Cash Rewards Benefits and Bonuses

4% cash back on gas is nothing to overlook, and is somewhat of a unicorn in the rewards space. Is that enough to apply for this card?

  • This card is fairly bare bones. You won't find a new customer bonus here.
  • This card does offer an introductory APR on balance transfers for 12 months, but not on purchases
  • Now we're reaching the bottom of the barrel for benefits with things like $0 fraud liability that almost every credit card offers.

Who is the PNC a good card for?

This card is a bit of an oddity, but the first thing you should have going for you is a good to excellent credit score. This means your score should be north of 680 and your report should be free and clear of any recent late/missed payments.

We'd also recommend that you be somewhat of a savvy consumer, and open to having more than one card in your wallet. Outside of the 4% on gas, we don't find this card particularly attractive. If you can max out the 4% on gas with some 3% on dining, this card would be good. A flat 2% like the Double Cash would be best leveraged for all other purchases.

Who Shouldn’t Apply for the PNC Cash Rewards Card?

This one is a bit cut and dry. If you're looking for one card to rule your wallet, it should not be this one. The tiered reward structure is not great for a lot of everyday spend, and the card features are relatively bare boned. There are better cash back credit cards out there for you.
